Slumbering Sands is over in Pokémon Go, but players aren’t happy about it. They’re praising Niantic for the event and hoping future events will have a similar charm.
SLUMBERING SANDS EVENT TIPS & TRICKS | POKÉMON GO
During Pokémon Go’s Slumbering Sands event (which ran from June 7-12), everyone was treated to double XP, surprise encounters, increased Shiny odds, sweet research rewards, and an adorable new Slakoth costume line. In a June 12 Reddit thread , players discussed what made this event more valuable than some of the previous ones, and many were quick to agree that this should be the litmus test for future events in this style.
At first glance, the biggest draw seems to have something to do with the Shinies. Not only did Shiny Komala make his debut in Pokémon Go, but he also had increased Shiny chances when encountered through Field Research. The same went for the adorable, visor-wearing Slakoth. The extra little Shiny boost made their introductions even more special, encouraging players to hunt and do Field Research. “The Field Research really motivated me to grind. I walked even more than usual to do a bunch of Field Research,” one player said. “I normally never have Shiny luck and was shocked when my first Komala encounter was Shiny,” added another.
Unfortunately, other players weren’t as lucky. But even if they finished the event without finding any Shinies, several players admitted that they still enjoyed Slumbering Sands. “Got zero Shinies but loved the XP boost,” said one. The great thing about the double XP for catching Pokémon was that it had nothing to do with luck and was easy for any player to take advantage of. So even if you went home empty-handed on the Shiny side of things, it’s not like your time was completely wasted, as more XP was your consolation prize. And if we happen to find any Shinies during that time, well, that’s a bonus and something else to celebrate.
