SMS stands for short message service and is widely used worldwide. In 2010, more than 6 trillion text messages were sent, which equated to about 193,000 text messages per second. (This number had tripled from 2007, when it was only 1.8 trillion.) In 2017, millennials alone sent and received almost 4,000 text messages per month.

The service allows you to send short text messages from one mobile phone to another, or from the Internet to a mobile phone.
