Facebook has announced that it is working on a new long-term AI project called Ego4D, which aims to solve the challenges of egocentric perception for artificial intelligence.
Facebook launched Ego4D, an interactive system with artificial intelligence
Egocentric perception is how humans see the world around them, a first-person perspective, which is difficult for AI to understand because it currently has to rely on learning from a third-person perspective. Facebook AI aims to solve this problem to take artificial intelligence to the next level and “unlock a new era of immersive experiences.”
The company assembled a group of researchers from 13 universities and labs in nine countries to collect large amounts of data for the project. The global team was able to collect 2,200 hours of first-person video of more than 700 participants going about their daily lives, all of which will be used to teach AI.
A scientist working on the project says a new standard is needed in AI so that artificial intelligence can learn from a first-person perspective and understand real-time movements.
