Facebook is a social networking site where users can post comments, share photos, and link to news or other interesting content on the web, chat live, and watch short videos.
Shared content can be made publicly accessible, but can also be shared only with a select group of friends or family members via Facebook groups, or with one person.
Facebook began in February 2004 as a school-based social network at Harvard University. It was founded by Mark Zuckerberg along with Edward Saverin, both students at the university. It wasn't until 2006 that Facebook was opened up to everyone 13 and older and took off, quickly overtaking MySpace as the world's most popular social network.
