Facebook has pushed its mobile gaming app to Android, making it available to users much earlier than expected. According to the New York Times, Facebook had planned to release the app in June but decided to launch it earlier to meet the needs of gamers stuck at home.
How to Live Stream a Game on Facebook from Android with the Facebook Gaming Android App!
Why game? The Times notes that Facebook claims that 700 million monthly users are already “engaged with gaming content.” The new mobile app will tap into the $160 billion global gaming industry, allowing users to create and watch live gameplay, similar to Amazon’s Twitch, Microsoft’s Mixer and Google’s YouTube Gaming.
The app itself: When you launch the app on Android (coming soon to iOS), you’ll be presented with a series of setup screens, where you can select your preferred language(s), select which games you want to follow, and a list of Facebook-affiliated game streamers that you can curate yourself.
Once on the main screen, you can go live with your own gaming on Facebook, making it easier for users to add more content for others to enjoy. You can see the list of games and streamers you follow, along with any gaming-related groups you’re a member of. There’s also a strange activity feed that doesn’t seem perfectly tied to gaming content (there were non-gaming posts from a few friends in our feed at all).
