If you’re like many of us, you’ve been experimenting with making your own videos on TikTok or Instagram while staying home during the pandemic. Now, Facebook is launching a new app called Collab specifically for those of us who want to make polyphonic music videos but may not have a background in video editing.
This video is 0 seconds long
What it is: Collab is an invite-only iOS app created by Facebook's experimental development team, NPE (New Product Experimentation). You can use it to "create, watch, and mix and match original videos, starting with music," according to the blog post.
How it works: You can record your own music or use pre-recorded clips to create a multi-part, synced video. That makes it accessible to people without musical talent, meaning Collab isn’t just for the virtuosos. You can save the resulting video to your camera roll or share it to Facebook and Instagram, as long as you save it to the Collab feed first, according to The Verge.
What to do: Since the app is now invite-only, you’ll need to register for access on the Collab page . Once you do, you’ll be added to the invite list for people in the US and Canada. If you want to stay up-to-date on the rollout, you can also join the Collab Facebook group.
