There’s been a lot of controversy over the past month surrounding Riot Games’ decision to create an overpriced League of Legends skin to celebrate the career of esports legend Faker. But even the 28-year-old superstar isn’t sporting the skin on stage.

In T1’s fourth series of the 2024 LCK Summer Split, Faker secured Ahri as his champion of choice against Kwangdong Freecs, much to the surprise of viewers and the broadcast team. Hilariously, however, Faker and the rest of T1 loaded into the second game of the day, only to be seen wearing the base Ahri skin instead of his commemorative cosmetic.

The decision was completely in line with the brand of the superstar mid laner, who has notoriously rarely used champion skins throughout his career. He’s only used skins on stage due to either a mistake or client-side bugs, which is one of the reasons why so many people found his overpriced Ahri skin so ironic for a player who doesn’t use skins in the first place.
