When the original version of Shin Megami Tensei V released, it was a Nintendo Switch exclusive. Naturally, that came with the performance issues you’d expect, especially from a game that features huge, detailed maps and fluid overworld movement. Framerate drops and low-res textures throughout were a frequent occurrence in that iteration of the game. Thankfully, Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance addresses those issues by being available on all platforms.
Fans are praising how smoothly Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance runs now that it's available on PC, and the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S ports are also getting good marks. Framerate drops have all but disappeared as Nahobino sprints over Shinagawa and Chiyoda, and one player even noticed improvements from a notoriously low-res NPC from the original SMT V.
Details like these are small, but they add up to a superior experience. Unfortunately, the Nintendo Switch can’t deliver on that. This places a burden on players who have full save data from the original Shin Megami Tensei V, as the developers have added some nice bonuses if you purchase Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance on the Switch after completing a run of the original game.
