Helldivers 2 players have taken to social media today with bold new ideas to save the game, as Arrowhead's third-person shooter continues to suffer from worrying player declines.
Helldivers 2 community in 'open rebellion' as devs respond…
Arrowhead has been diligently fixing bugs and rolling out new content at a moderate pace since Helldivers 2 launched on February 8th. While this initially received support, the results since then have been mixed. Persistent issues with gear and upgrades, a prominent example of which is the Spear’s flawed targeting ability, continue to frustrate players.
Despite initial enthusiasm, the game’s Steam player count has plummeted, from 458,208 at its peak in February to just 91,692. This steady decline, while not unusual, highlights underlying issues with player engagement.
One culprit can be traced back to a recent controversy in which it was announced that PC players would have to link PlayStation Network accounts to Steam accounts in order to continue playing. This in turn backfired on Sony and led to a massive loss of goodwill within the community. The butterfly effect that followed goes hand in hand with this continued decline.
