The latest update to Final Cut Pro X (FCPX), Apple’s professional video editing suite, adds expanded support for collaborative, online, and remote collaboration. It’s the perfect feature update for making TV and movies during a pandemic.

This allows editors and producers to work from home without having to upload and download huge video files over slow internet connections. In short, FCPX allows TV and film post-production teams to collaborate from home, without compromising the final product. And that means they can keep making our favorite TV shows, even during lockdown.

“With more people working from home, it also makes sense to have smaller files to work with remotely to speed up workflow,” Ste Smith, head of post-production at Paragon Pictures, told Lifewire via Twitter DM.

When the COVID-19 pandemic hit, film and TV production was halted, sometimes mid-shoot. At the same time, movie theaters closed or were downsized to operate at reduced capacity. In June, New Zealand reopened its cinemas after declaring itself COVID-free (prematurely, as it turned out). Despite being safe to do so, box office revenues were down just 17% from normal levels. People simply aren’t going to the movies, and many may never go again.
