Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail's relatively smooth launch has hit its first hiccup. Earlier this evening, all servers in North American data centers suffered a mass disconnection, forcing thousands of players away.
Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail review
Around 4:30 PM CT, players began experiencing massive connectivity issues in the form of error 90002, causing them to disconnect from servers. Many also encountered lobby error 2002 when attempting to log back in, forcing them to restart the game. Players who attempted to log back in immediately after the disconnection were faced with a login queue of thousands as everyone scrambled to log back in. This was a first for many on Dawntrail, given the unexpectedly fast login times since the launch of Early Access.
Despite its massive scale, a one-off disconnection event pales in comparison to the horrendous login queues of the Endwalker release, which were so bad that server congestion was the biggest issue hanging over the dev team in the lead up to Dawntrail’s launch. Up until now, the NA servers haven’t had too many login issues, aside from the Aether Data Center. But now that players have moved to the relatively empty servers on Dynamis, login times appear to have evened out overall.
We see that the Aether datacenter Worlds are full and there are a large number of players waiting to get into the login queue of each World. The Dynamis datacenter still has plenty of space and short queue times, should you wish to take advantage of datacenter travel. #FFXIV
