Move over, Wi-Fi 6, it’s time for something faster and better. The Wi-Fi Alliance, the folks responsible for governing Wi-Fi standards around the world, has just announced the latest wireless protocol, Wi-Fi 7.
Can I get 8 GIGABIT speeds on WiFi 7?! 😈
The devices we all use are becoming increasingly demanding when it comes to ultra-reliable wireless signals, including gaming consoles, VR and AR headsets, Internet of Things (IoT) devices, and more. Even our cars will be looking to this new standard to bring innovations to your road trips, and Wi-Fi 7 will help us do just that.
The Alliance predicts that more than 233 million new devices will enter the market in 2024, with a potential of 2.1 billion gadgets in 2028. New phones, tablets, PCs and routers are likely to be the first to adopt the standard, the Alliance said in its press release, with customer premise equipment (CPE) and VR/AR devices quickly following.
“The introduction of Wi-Fi CERTIFIED 7 marks the dawn of the next generation of Wi-Fi and will be an accelerator for mass adoption of Wi-Fi 7,” said Kevin Robinson, president and CEO of Wi-Fi Alliance, in a statement. “This certification underscores our unwavering commitment to delivering cutting-edge technology that redefines the way users experience Wi-Fi, delivering faster speeds, improved efficiency, and increased reliability that broaden the horizons of what’s possible over Wi-Fi.”
