Hey phone thieves: even if you turn off your iPhone now, it can still be tracked.
Find My iPhone Just Got Better
In iOS 15, Apple made it possible to track an iPhone via the Find My network, even if it’s turned off. The old way to track a lost or stolen iPhone was for the phone to periodically transmit its position so you could find it on a map. This was easily remedied by turning the iPhone off immediately after you picked it up. And even for regular old lost iPhones, you could only track it until the battery died.
The new way is much better and shows how much Find My has improved in iOS 15. And it doesn't even add any new privacy issues,
“iPhones continue to be a target for theft, but this new feature should help reduce the number of thefts,” network engineer Eric McGee told Lifewire via email.
