We purchased Fitbit's Versa 2 so that our expert reviewer could thoroughly test and review it. Read on for our full product review.
The beauty of something like the Fitbit Versa 2 isn’t in its always-connected functionality: you’ll have to look higher to get full smartwatch features. Instead, you’re getting a superlative fitness wearable with a few extra options that make it feel more like a smartwatch. And that’s just fine in our book, because what Fitbit lacks in flagship mobile software integration, it more than makes up for in battery life, fitness-focused add-ons, and versatility. I got my hands on a Versa 2 and wore it for a few weeks around New York City, easily taking it from workouts to bedtime. Read on to see how it performed.
The most surprising thing to me when I unboxed the Versa 2 was how much it reminded me of something like an Apple Watch. For starters, Fitbit opted to make the watch face a square one, as opposed to the more traditional round one. While there are a few Android Wear watches that look very sleek with this one, I much prefer the square watch face with rounded corners. The Versa 2 pulls this off very nicely.
One thing to note, however, is that the bezels around the display itself are much thicker than you might expect. This is interesting because at first glance the watch appears to be bezel-less, thanks to Fitbit opting for an all-black top with a glass top, and most watch faces available have a black background. Unless you hold the watch at an angle, you really can’t tell where the screen ends and the bezels begin. This is likely due to the super-sharp AMOLED display and its 1,000 nits of brightness. The blacks look very black, which makes the contrasting graphics really pop.
