Fix the issue where brightness cannot be adjusted after upgrading to Windows 8.1

After recently upgrading an older Lenovo laptop to Windows 10, I ran into a very annoying problem. For some reason, the ability to adjust the brightness stopped working. When I pressed the brightness keys on the keyboard, I saw the brightness level go up or down, but nothing changed on the screen! It was the weirdest thing I had ever seen.

The first thing I thought was that maybe there was a hardware issue and Windows 10 wasn’t recognizing the keystroke correctly. I decided to try changing the brightness level in the OS itself. I opened the Action Center and clicked Expand and then tried to adjust the brightness there, but again nothing happened! Now I was really confused.

I also tried going into Power Options and changing the brightness there, but that made no difference on the actual screen. The second thought that came to mind was that it was a driver issue. I went to the Lenovo website and downloaded the latest driver I could find for the machine. I was hoping that would fix it, but it didn't!
