[Solution] There was a problem sending the command to the [EXCEL] program

Windows is full of strange error messages that I have written extensively about before, so in this post I will cover another strange one. I recently came across this message:

I ran into this error when I tried to open web links from my email program. When I clicked on the link, this error message appeared and then Internet Explorer opened with a blank page! Not really what I wanted!

After playing around with the issue more, I realized that I was getting this error when opening other types of files, not just from my email program, but from the web as well. For example, if I tried to open a Word document or Excel file from my email, I would get the error, followed by Word or Excel opening, but the actual file would not display.
