Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn is one of the most fun new titles I’ve played in years. Why? Because every second I spent with this game, I felt the love that went into making it.
Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn review
While it bills itself as the new kid on the block in the Soulslike 'genre', how does Flintlock stack up against some of the competition? I'm happy to report that it performs just fine. The tutorial section introduces you to the basics, how to hit, how to heal, and how to shoot.
When I was introduced to how to properly parry with a gun, I knew Flintlock was going to be a bloody good time, and it certainly was. The combat is tough and well animated, if a little slow at times. The movement is also very well done and actually plays a much bigger role in the game than I initially thought.
Powdered Mobility is a game changer, allowing you to double jump and double dash (with great animations and sound design) and is more than just a simple mobility gimmick. It provides your best tool to control your combat, as you’ll use it to escape large groups of enemies, perform special attacks (like the Ground Slam or Jump Attack skills) and of course avoid panic when the going gets tough.
