There are professional hair terms that only colorists seem to understand, and foil lyage is one of them. Luckily, our stylist Samantha Harman has written this article with all the important details about the foil technique. Keep reading to find out how foils plus balayage can help you get the color you've always dreamed of.
Foilage
The folieyage (or foilayage) technique results from combining traditional foils and balayage effect. Traditional foils are applied to the customer's head in a pattern, resulting in a more consistent look. Balayage consists of hand-painted highlights, resulting in a more natural, sun-kissed look. However, balayage often does not turn out as blonde as traditional foils. The Foilyage Method helps give clients the best of both worlds by combining the two techniques. It's perfect for women who want lighter blonde sections through their hair and still want a natural, lived-in look.

The foil-like hair coloring can be done in many different ways. However, there are two ways that I use most in the salon.
