One idea floating around is that Apple will combine an iPhone and an iPad to create a double-width phone, or perhaps the iPhone Flip will fold like the iconic Motorola Razr. These are just rumors for now, and some experts think that Apple will release a foldable iPad before it releases a clamshell phone. Either way, the talk of a foldable Apple gadget is growing.

Jeff Pu, an analyst at Haitong International Securities, says that Apple's first flip phone could hit the market in 2026. This is supported by a 2024 report from The Information and Taiwanese newspaper United Daily News, which Patently Apple reports said that part of the Vision Pro team is working on the foldable iPhone project with the aim of launching it in 2026-2027.

One idea behind a flexible Apple device is an iPad that folds. Rumors about that device, however, are possibly about an iPhone/iPad hybrid. Of course, no one knows what Apple's plans are, and one analyst firm predicts that Apple will launch a foldable iPad first.

Despite Apple not having any official details, they’ve clearly been interested in a foldable device for years. Patents filed in 2011, 2014, June 2016, August 2016, 2018, and 2020 prove this, and there are probably more we’ve missed. Of course, this also shows that despite the obvious interest, they haven’t released a foldable device.
