On Friday, August 9, a Facebook post announced that former YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki had died of cancer at the age of 56.

The post was made by Wojcicki's husband, Dennis Troper, who revealed the cause of her death. "It is with deep sadness that I share the news of Susan Wojcicki's passing," he said. "My beloved wife of 26 years and mother of our five children left us today after living for two years with non-small cell lung cancer."
Susan Wojcicki was one of Google's first employees since the company was founded in 1998, working in her home, which she rented to founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin. After working at Intel and Bain & Company, she officially joined Google in 1999 as its first marketing manager. She previously served as the company's senior vice president of advertising products.
Wojcicki began her last known role as CEO of YouTube in 2014, which helped her greatly establish herself as one of the most prominent and powerful women in tech and advertising. During her time as CEO, she introduced several features and changes to the platform, including subscription offerings for music and original video content. YouTube also saw several changes to its content moderation practices, such as the notable removal of the visible count for the dislike button on videos.
