Even before the release of Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 4, data miners and known Fortnite leakers like Shiina and HypeX had already released several details about the upcoming Chapter 6, including a release date.
Fortnite Chapter 6: Release Date and Key Features Leaked! New Game Modes, Floating Islands?!?
According to the leaks (some are already known), the upcoming Chapter 6 will have several exciting features, such as prone and swinging mechanics. The latter is a game-changing feature that will only further improve the current meta of using character speed to reposition and fight. Imagine the chaos in the lobby if multiple movement-based abilities like swinging, nitro, and flowberry fizz are used at the exact same time!
NEW: Chapter 6 coming December 1st 🔥Fortnite is getting a “Swinging” mechanic with the update and First-Person is being added to UEFN around the same time, which also opens up the possibility of Epic adding it to Battle Royale! (Release date provided by @Jorge_Most_) pic.twitter.com/hQ62x5G0Fd
The prone mechanic seems like a nice feature if it makes it into the final game. It allows players to play more methodically and strategically by taking high ground in lower elos, but it could be hit or miss in higher ranked games with all the movement based abilities. For example, the idea of lying down in an elevated position with a sniper might sound great, but you’ll definitely see several enemies swinging or using their nitro abilities to reach you and attack you with shotguns. Only time will tell if it’s a great addition or a waste of dev time.
