A new showrunner has been hired for A24's Friday the 13th prequel series.

Crystal Lake was originally announced in 2022 and is a Friday the 13th prequel series being produced by A24 for Peacock. The series was originally set to have Bryan Fuller as showrunner; however, Fuller left the project in May 2024. At the time, the series was presumed dead.
According to Deadline, the show is moving on, as It: Welcome to Derry's Brad Caleb Kane will now serve as showrunner for Crystal Lake.
Kane said in a statement: "From the moment I saw Jason Voorhees squeeze a man's eyeball out of its socket (in glorious 3D!) at the age of 8, I knew my creative path would one day intersect with The Man Behind The Mask. Nothing defined my childhood more than growing up in the golden age of the slasher film, and nothing has defined the genre more than Friday The 13th. I couldn't be more excited for the opportunity to contribute a chapter to this iconic franchise, especially with such fearless partners as Peacock and A24."
