While most people see mods as a deviation from the intended gaming experience, Hidetaka Miyazaki said that FromSoftware is not against co-op mods, even though Elden Ring wasn't designed with full co-op in mind.

In an interview with PC Gamer on June 16, Elden Ring creator Miyazaki shared his thoughts on the popular "Seemless Co-op" mod and co-op play in general, confirming that he and his team enjoy the add-on. "We're definitely not actively opposing players who want to experience the game together," he said.
Miyazaki admitted that the development team thought about this for a while before deciding to focus on Elden Ring's multiplayer, "a more casual cop-op style" where players can be called upon to help their friends with bosses or areas and then return to their own worlds.
While this approach may have streamlined the co-op experience compared to previous FromSoftware titles, it left some players yearning for a more integrated experience. That’s where the Seemless Co-op mod comes in. Uploaded on May 27, 2022, the mod has been downloaded over 1.7 million times by players.
