According to a post posted on the dark web this week and shared on X (formerly Twitter) by T. Nihonmatsu, BlackSuit claims to have infiltrated the Japanese giant’s network nearly a month ago. The hackers claim to have exploited vulnerabilities in the company’s interconnected network infrastructure, gaining access to as much as 1.5TB of data.
The data reportedly contains a nightmarish cocktail of sensitive information, including employee details, user platform data, contracts, project details, and financial documents. The hacker group emphasizes the sensitive nature of this data, stating that "Japanese citizens prefer to keep information about their private lives private." BlackSuit threatens to leak this data on July 1 if Kadokawa does not meet its ransom demands, and that current negotiations have not met its price expectations.
The attack has significantly disrupted KADOKAWA’s operations, affecting subsidiaries such as Dwango and Niconico. While Kadokawa aims to restore services by the end of July, the full extent of the damage remains unclear.
