It seems that most phone manufacturers are betting on integrating AI-powered features into the device itself. While it’s mostly reserved for premium phones, devices still need to have hardware capabilities that can handle the AI features. Most of the high-end hardware efforts for AI focus on improving the chipset, and understandably so since that’s the brains of the device. But other components like storage make just as much of an impact, especially in terms of speed.
Galaxy S25 Ultra Leaks: We Know A LOT Already! 🔎
Samsung is working on an improved version of Universal Flash Storage 4.0, the latest phone storage technology, and making it twice as fast. The next iteration, called UFS 4.0 4-lane CS, will be able to reach 8GB/s, while the current technology only allows for 4GB/s.
According to Samsung’s explanation, the faster sequential read speed is achieved by combining two of its current UFS controllers. The higher speeds are just what the AI features on the device need to reduce loading times.
However, with production of the new storage technology set to begin in 2024, it won’t be until 2025 before the new UFS iteration sees its way into Samsung devices. And since it’s the Galaxy S25 that’s going into production this year, we might see UFS 4.0 4-lane storage integrated into it.
