Hearing Loss Simulation – What's it Like?
Forza Horizon 5 developers will add on-screen sign language interpreters who will appear in a picture-in-picture display during the game's cutscenes. It's part of a growing movement to improve accessibility in games. According to a recent report, one in eight people in the United States aged 12 or older has hearing loss in both ears.
“This represents a huge number of potential gaming customers that are being lost if games aren’t accessible to this segment of users,” Mikal Babenko, a brand manager at game developer Room8 Studio, told Lifewire in an email interview. “Games need to reflect the reality of the world at large.”
The interpreters for Forza Horizon 5 aren't available yet when the game launches on November 9, but the company says they will be available soon.
