Before I get started with this Nvidia RTX 4070 review, let me take you back in time. Almost seven years ago, in May 2016, I got my GeForce GTX 1080 for almost $600. It was one of the cards that I kept with me the longest. It has a lot of fond gaming memories attached to it.

But you might be wondering why I’m talking about the GTX 1080. The reason is simple: the COVID-19 pandemic. Due to the global chip shortage and increased demand for cryptocurrency mining, many cards sold for more than their release price. Both the GTX 1060 and GTX 1070 Ti, which launched with an MSRP of $250 and $450 respectively, sold for around $500 and $1,100 respectively.
As Nvidia PR Manager Boris Böhles said, “Gamers come first for Nvidia.” Nvidia took a lot of measures to make sure that gamers got the card. They brought GTX 1050 Ti, RTX 2060, and RTX 2060 Super into the pipeline, and even added chips that no longer support mining like before. So if I understand this backstory, I think the RTX 4070 will be a huge hit for many gamers.
Due to chip shortages and many other reasons, many gamers are stuck with 7-year-old GPUs like the 10-series. The 4070 promises to meet those demands and ensure that gamers have more than enough units to get their hands on. Let’s take a look at how the RTX 4070 compares to other GPUs and if it’s worth its $599 price tag.
