Available via a Gemini Advanced subscription, Gemini Live has been the most talked-about feature since its unveiling at the Made by Google 2024 event, relegating even the Pixel 9’s launch to a footnote. But early reviews, while initially impressive, aren’t in its favor.

So, like most tech reviewers, I decided to try Gemini Live for myself and see what all the fuss was about. For the sake of brevity, I won’t tell you everything I talked about (who has time for that?). But you’ll get the general idea.
Now, Gemini Live isn’t free, and I don’t have a Pixel 9 which comes with a free year of Gemini Advanced. So I got a free trial and Gemini Live was available to me right away, which is cool.
But is the $20 subscription fee for Gemini Live worth it? Let’s find out.
