Nintendo has given us all the gift of activity with a new, free game on Nintendo Switch. Called Jump Rope Challenge, the title challenges you to perform a simple motion that mimics skipping. Sure, you don’t actually have to jump up and down, but you do have to swing the Joy-Con controllers in a circular motion; even sitting down, your arms are going to get a little tired.
Nintendo Switch Tips I wish I had known sooner.
Grab your copy: All you need to do is open the eShop on your Switch and search for Jump Rope Challenge . It’s currently prominently featured on the store’s main page, but that could change. Download the app, then remove your Joy-Cons and make sure they’re paired. As Polygon notes, the game will only be available until September, so grab your own copy now.
Not the first: Nintendo has been making fitness games for a while, most famously with Wii Fit on the original Wii console in 2008. The company currently sells Ring Fit Adventure, a fitness game that centers around a flexible ring that provides a fun way to perform various strength and cardio exercises. Jump Rope Challenge costs nothing extra and requires no peripherals, so you can get started right away.
How it works: Once you start swinging your Joy-Cons, the game is pretty simple. It counts the number of rotations with a cute little bunny icon (you can change his outfit, too!), and gives you little visual rewards for milestone repetitions. For example, I got a cute cat background and a flower icon when I reached 100 rotations. The flower icons indicate how many hundred jumps you've made at the top, so you can keep track of your progress.
