Gigantic: Rampage Edition is a long-awaited revival after seven years, but it doesn't seem to realize its own potential. While it is a fun game to play, its biggest problem is the change in business model and a slight lack of new content.
Gigantic is BACK and better… But not by much. (Gigantic Rampage Edition review)
I have to give a big shout out to Gigantic’s visuals. While I love that games can now mimic a human face and our movements almost perfectly, I have a soft spot for games like this one. The unique and colorful art style of the characters made me want to play them all at once, and out of the entire roster, I couldn’t find a single one whose design I didn’t like. I’m especially a big fan of Griselma, a granny summoner with the fanciest glasses, and Wu, a frog melee champion who jumps around the map.
Not only do all the characters look different, they also behave differently and have different skills. You have the typical sniper in Imani, but then you also have a Robin Hood-inspired Voden who uses a bow and arrow. In a game with many characters, it is not always easy to make them all unique, and I applaud the developers for this.
However, this is mostly the design of the original game with a few changes and only two new characters. While I like their designs too, you would expect more from a relaunch of a game that has been around for seven years. They didn’t have to change any of the old characters, but a few new characters would have been better. Considering the game went from free-to-play to buy-to-play, more heroes with the Rampage Edition could have enticed more new and returning players to buy it.
