Under a new Apple policy, app makers must disclose what data they collect. Google says its Gmail app collects information ranging from third-party ads to analytics. And some observers say it's too much data.
“Apple’s new privacy policy has exposed the excessive amounts of personal and usage information collected by Google, Facebook and others,” said Chris Hauk, a consumer privacy expert at the privacy website PixelPrivacy, in an email interview.
“Hopefully, the new policy will encourage more developers to use less intrusive methods of collecting information, or to abandon collecting it altogether.”
