Godfall review
With the PlayStation 5 launching late last year, Godfall was the first of the PS5 exclusives, launching in early November. As a looter-shooter enthusiast (particularly of the Borderlands series), I was intrigued by the prospect of using swords and shields instead of guns. At first, it was a fun, engaging experience thanks to the immersive graphics. Sadly, I shelved it after 11 hours of gameplay and moved on to the next game in my library due to its repetitive nature and poor storytelling. Read on for my take on the gameplay, plot, and graphics.
"It was all a lie," says the narrator, announcing the start of the game. What follows is an extended cutscene that shows everything I could want in an adventure game: betrayal, combat, and of course, a desire for bloodthirsty revenge.
You play as the character Orin, a Valorian Knight on the planet Aperion who starts out as a male character, but as you gain armor throughout the game, can become genderfluid to your preference. Orin has a brother named Macros. Story can make or break a game though, and I didn’t really see a reason for these siblings to be swinging swords at each other in the opening scene. I kept wondering what Macros did to incite the wrath of Orin’s vengeance. Whatever Macros did, Orin cared enough to go on a quest to destroy Macros.
