It was a bright, new era for Apex Legends in 2019. The still-new game had just kicked off its second-ever season, and a limited-time mode came to Kings Canyon that players assumed had to come back soon: Solos. It’s taken nearly five years, but the Solos LTM is finally returning for Season 21.

This is the new RANKED META of Apex! (Apex Legends)

While you might be surprised that it’s taken this long for one of the most requested LTMs ever to return to Apex, it’s come as a shock to many to see it at all. Respawn Entertainment has been vocal for the past year or so about the fact that there were no plans for Solos to return, despite player requests to the contrary. That all changes in Season 21, which introduces a new, souped-up version of the Solos LTM that takes cues from other modes like Control and Three Strikes.

“With growing player demand and a desire within the team to explore the concept again, taking everything we’ve learned since it last appeared in 2019,” Apex Events Lead Mike Button said in an interview with media ahead of Season 21. Button went on to provide the timeline for the LTM, which will span the first six weeks of the next season and will act as a takeover of the regular battle royale Duos queue.

But this isn’t the same old Solos mode you might have played in 2019. The first big change to this solos mode is respawn tokens, which feel like a nod to the Three Strikes LTM. Each person in the 50-player lobby receives one respawn token that they can use in the first four rounds of a Solos match to respawn, essentially giving them an extra life. If players don’t use them by the end of round four, that token is consumed and converted into an Evo level. Players who take out an enemy will also receive an auto-heal, helping to keep the action fast-paced but without punishing players for getting into too much combat.
