Google on Tuesday announced new policies and updates aimed at improving the safety of children online.

One of the most notable changes to Google's policy, announced in a blog post , is that YouTube videos made by 13- to 17-year-olds will automatically be set to private by default. Other changes to YouTube include automatic break and bedtime reminders for the same age group and the removal of "overly commercial content" that could entice kids to spend money.
Other important changes include the ability for minors or their parents to request that their images be removed from Google's image results. Google notes that this feature won't completely remove the image from the web, but it should give young people more control over their images online.
Finally, Engadget notes other changes, such as automatically turning on SafeSearch and disabling Location History for users under 18, and not allowing minors to turn them on. Google also said it would block ad targeting to minors based on their age, gender or interests.
