Google Chat is getting support for voice messages soon, a huge update to improve communication between Google Workspace users. The feature, also known as Audio Snippets, was first announced during the Google Cloud Next 2023 event.
Send voice messages in Google Chat #googleworkspace
The ability to send and receive voice messages has been one of the most requested features for years. And rightly so, as it saves users the trouble of typing all the time and helps them understand the context of the message based on the tone of their voice.
The feature is expected to arrive in Google Chat in Q1/4. Recently, X user and techie AssembleDebug managed to enable the feature and see it in action. As seen below, there is a new microphone icon that replaces the "Send" button (which only appears once you start typing).
When you tap the microphone icon, the voice recording UI appears with a delete and pause button.
