Google plans to end support for devices running Android 2.3.7 and earlier starting September 27.
De-Googling Any Android Phone! (Google Apps Alternatives)
This includes the oldest Android OS versions, such as Android 1.0, 1.5 Cupcake, 2.0 Eclair, and 2.3 Gingerbread. These are all more than ten years old.
The decision was first announced to device owners in an email from the company, posted by a user on Reddit. The email states that affected phones will no longer be able to log in to Google Apps starting in late September, and recommends users update their devices to Android 3.0 or later to maintain access.
That doesn’t mean these old smartphones will be completely useless. The devices can be used, but without the ability to log into a Google account. Everyday use, such as calling and browsing, will still be available.
