The Google Maps iOS app is getting some updated features, including a dark mode option.
How do I officially enable dark mode in Google Maps for iPhone?
Google announced new updates to its iOS Google Maps app on Tuesday. Dark mode will be available to iOS users in the coming weeks, nearly two years after Apple first rolled out dark mode in iOS 13. Android users have had dark mode on Google Maps since February 2021.
iOS users can now share their live location with Google Maps via iMessage contacts. By default, your location will be shared with anyone you choose for one hour, with the option to extend location sharing for up to three days, bringing Google Maps into line with Apple's own Maps app.
The other updates to Google Maps for iOS include two new handy home screen widgets: a nearby traffic widget and a search widget. The former shows you what the traffic is like in the area before you leave for your destination, so you can plan accordingly. The latter lets you save the places you visit most often, so you can get directions and traffic information more quickly.
