Google Maps is getting a number of new features to improve user convenience and safety.

The Maps app has gotten a number of new features over the years, with even more changes to the way you can view landmarks, check out cycling routes, and make plans with friends. All three features are also available for both iOS and Android devices, so no matter what you use, you should be able to check them out.

First up is the new flyover aerial landmark view, which offers what Google is calling “photorealistic aerial imagery” of popular landmarks. The idea is that by looking at stitched-together street view and satellite imagery, assembled using AI, you’ll be better able to decide whether or not to visit the location. And if you do want to take a closer look, just keep an eye out for an aerial photo in the Photos section of any given landmark.

Next up are cycling routes, which are getting more detail. Route information now includes information about what you’re likely to encounter on your ride: stairs, steep hills and traffic density, as well as the elevation of the route. Smaller breakdowns of specific parts of your route are also being added, such as indicators of whether a path follows a main road or a smaller local side street.
