This year’s Pixel release could include an extra variant beyond the standard and Pro models. Recent leaks have suggested that Google is bringing back the XL moniker this year with a third Pixel 9 Pro XL. Not only would the extra model in the Pixel 9 lineup give users more options, but it also gives Google more leeway in deciding which variant gets what.
Google Pixel 9 Pro XL – Surprising new details
Early renders, for example, suggest the three devices will have different sizes, with the standard Pixel 9 pegged at 6.03 inches, the Pixel 9 Pro at 6.1 inches and the Pixel 9 Pro XL at 6.5-inch displays.
Even the largest phone of the three would therefore be 0.2 inches shorter than the Pixel 8 Pro. And let’s face it, it’s just too big.
For most years, users have been torn between getting a slightly shorter Pixel that fits in their hands or one that has the best cameras. With the next iteration, you could be getting the best of both worlds on the Pixel 9 Pro, as both ‘Pro’ models feature a triple-camera system. Design-wise, the Pixel 9 lineup also features a thicker bump for the camera lens on the rear, but that would hardly be a deal-breaker for most.
