Have you ever wondered what your favorite Android app knows about you and who it shares this information with?
Google Play Policy – Declared Permissions and In-App Disclosures
To put your mind at ease, the Google Play Store has started displaying privacy labels on all of its apps to give people more insight into their data collection policies. The information is listed under a new Data Safety section in the Play Store, and while it was announced in May of last year, it's only just started rolling out.
“As a privacy-conscious, informed consumer, having Google’s labels helps inform your decision-making,” Melissa Bischoping, Endpoint Security Research Specialist at Tanium, told Lifewire via email. “Additionally, the labels can help motivate people to make privacy-conscious choices and incentivize developers to design with security in mind.”
The Data Security section shares exactly what data an app collects and what data it shares with third parties. It also shares details about the app’s security practices and the security mechanisms developers use to protect the collected data. Additionally, people are told whether they have the option to ask the developer to delete their collected data, such as when they are no longer using the app.
