Keeping kids focused in the age of electronics is a challenge, especially if you want to be able to stay in touch with them when they’re away from home. That’s why Google has chosen to expand Android parental controls across devices and add new features.

Google announced the changes Thursday on The Keyword blog, which include an expansion of the Schooltime setting, which first introduced with Fitbit Ace LTE smartwatches in May 2024, and some new controls that can be tailored to the needs of your family, no matter what age your kids are.

The School Time setting lets you schedule specific hours when your child's phone will display a special home screen with limited access to apps and phone functionality. You can set up this limited access during school hours or any other time when you want to limit your child's screen time but still give them access to communication tools. These features will be available "over the next year."

New YouTube supervision features are also coming to Android "later this summer." These features are geared specifically toward teens and will let you link your account to your teen's so you can see exactly what your teen is watching on YouTube.
