Imagine if you could use Google Street View to travel back and look 50 years into the past. If you have patience and Google is still around in 35 years, you can.
How to See Old Google Maps Street Views (Travel Back in Time)
Google Maps on Android and iOS now lets you view old Street View imagery from the past, all the way back to its launch in 2007. This lets you travel back in time about 15 years. It’s certainly a fun way to waste a few hours on a Friday afternoon, but imagine how useful this will be in the future. Or how about the idea that Google Street View has been around for 50 years? What could we use it for?
“Anyone born after 2000 can go back 50 years later and see the streets of their youth, where they went to school, where they played with their friends,” photographer and Google local guide Herve Andrieu told Lifewire via email. “The nostalgic pleasure in itself is such a great value.”
Street View is perhaps Google’s most impressive project yet. It’s the perfect application of real-world search, bringing streets into a browser or app and putting them on the same level as a website search. We already use it for so many things: checking out the neighborhood around a vacation rental or hotel, peeking into the window of a restaurant or store to see if we should visit, or just cruising through a neighborhood to see what it looks like.
