Google has officially announced a new shopping feature that uses augmented reality technology to reduce purchase regret.
Try Before You Buy: Google's Virtual Fitting Tool for Online Shoppers – Brand The Change
The service lets you experiment with products through your phone and the magic of AR. Google is starting with makeup, with a focus on foundation products. The company partnered with beauty brands to create a photo library of 148 models representing a “diverse spectrum of skin tones, ages, genders, face shapes, ethnicities, and skin types.”
All you have to do is scroll through the models, find one that matches your skin tone, and apply different foundations and other beauty products to approximate how they would look on you. There’s a “before and after” feature to help you make quick decisions, and you can search by brand (like Clinique) or price point.
Google’s AR wizardry extends beyond makeup, as the company has taken the same technology it uses to preview furniture in your space and use it to enable consumers to shop for sneakers. The new AR Home Goods feature lets you place multiple pairs of sneakers around your room and rotate them, zoom in to see details, and even swap out laces and colors when possible.
