The Pixel 9 rumors were revealed today, with Google announcing four new phones during the keynote: Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, and Pixel 9 Pro Fold.
Google Pixel 9 Pro: AI that REALLY WORKS?
The phones are available for pre-order starting today. The Pixel 9 starts shipping on August 22, while the Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, and Pixel 9 Pro Fold start shipping on September 4. Prices range from $799 for the standard model up to $1,799 for the Pixel 9 Pro Fold. Google is throwing in Google Store credit for anyone who pre-orders either of the Pro or Pro Fold phones.
One of the most noticeable physical changes to this year’s Pixels is the camera bar. Compared to its predecessor, the camera housing is more compact, more rounded and doesn’t quite fill the width of the phone. The Pixel 9 Pro XL’s triple cameras on the back include a 48MP telephoto sensor and a 42MP selfie camera (the Pixel 8 Pro uses a 10.5MP selfie camera). Google’s Pro-level Pixels also support 8K recording via Video Boost (video is recorded in 4K and then upscaled using AI).
Screen sizes are changing this year. The base model and Pixel 9 Pro are 6.3 inches, larger than the Pixel 8’s 6.2-inch display but smaller than the 6.7-inch Pixel 8 Pro. In its place is a new 6.8-inch Pixel 9 Pro XL. The Pixel 9 Pro Fold unfolds to a large 8-inch display (up from the original’s 7.6-inch screen). These phones feature 120Hz displays, with the Pro models having a peak brightness of 3,000 nits, up from the Pixel 8 Pro’s 1,600 nits.
