The SAG-AFTRA video game strike has begun, and speculation is rife about which games will be affected. But according to a new report, GTA 6 is in the clear

GTA 6 is NOT affected by the recent SAG-AFTRA strike!

Yesterday, the guild voted to authorize a strike against several video game companies over their use of AI to cut costs, specifically their use of AI to change or replace voice actors. One of the companies being protested is Take-Two Interactive, the company that owns Rockstar Games, which is developing the highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto 6. The sequel isn’t due out until 2025, but that hasn’t stopped speculation that the strike will result in the game being delayed. After all, last summer’s SAG-AFTRA strike led to several films being delayed and television series were halted until last November.

Now, a new report from Kotaku has put those rumors to rest. In an email sent to the site, a spokesperson for Take-Two Interactive claimed that GTA 6 is "exempt" from the strikes. This lines up with other statements made by the report's author, Ethan Gach, on X/Twitter in which he suggested that games that have been in production for over a year would not be affected by the strikes. Given that GTA 6 has likely been in development for much longer, those who have been waiting forever for Rockstar to return to the series can breathe a sigh of relief.

However, as reassuring as this report is, it doesn't mean that GTA 6 couldn't still be delayed for other reasons. There's still no actual release date for the game, and rumors have been circulating the internet for months that the game will be delayed until 2026. Take-Two has stated that they have no plans to delay the game and that they're still on track for a 2025 release, but you can never really predict the game's development process.
