In his latest Power On newsletter, Apple reporter Mark Gurman breaks down the biggest innovations in the iPhone 16 series and provides insight into what we can expect next year.
For starters, Gurman says the upcoming iPhones will “look virtually identical to last year’s model.” The Pro models will get slightly larger displays, the A18 chip, a new camera control button that lets you take a photo directly with a side button, and additional colors, with a possible switch from blue to rose gold. Non-Pro iPhone 16 versions will now get the customizable Action button that was introduced on last year’s Pro models.
On the software front, Apple Intelligence will come to the entire lineup, but not until the iOS 18.1 update later this year. To support the company’s new AI features, all four models—iPhone 16, 16 Plus, 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max—come with 8GB of RAM, compared to 6GB in the lower-end models.
