Microsoft's beloved Halo franchise is getting a facelift with the switch to Unreal Engine 5, and fans have plenty of reason to be excited thanks to "multiple projects" currently in development.
Halo Studios, formerly 343 Industries, is moving to Unreal Engine for future games and is working on
The latest installment in the Halo series came with 2021's Halo Infinite. The game moved the standard linear approach to an open-world environment and suffered quite a few setbacks along the way. For example, we saw early images online of the game's graphics looking poor.
Microsoft is hoping to avoid similar issues with an entirely new approach to Halo, centered around Unreal Engine 5. This opens the door for "multiple projects" to be in development at the renamed Halo Studios, replacing 343 Industries, all detailed in a post on Xbox Wire.
According to studio head Pierre Hintze, the move to Unreal Engine is the next "chapter" in the Halo franchise. COO Elizabeth van Wyck explained that the previous approach "doesn't necessarily work as well for the way we want to make games going forward."
