Apple's new Magic Keyboard with Touch ID is the latest step in transforming a Mac mini or docked MacBook into the new M1 iMac.
Apple Magic Keyboard with Touch ID Review
On your iPhone or iPad, Touch ID and Face ID have long made it easy to avoid typing in your password every time you want to log in, make a purchase, or otherwise authenticate yourself. Then Touch ID came to MacBooks, leaving only Apple’s desktop Macs without biometric authentication. That changed with the 2021 M1 iMac, which comes with a new version of Apple’s excellent Magic Keyboard, which features a tiny Touch ID button in the upper-right corner. Now, that same keyboard is available separately, in two sizes. I bought the large.
One note: If you don't have an M1 Mac, don't bother. Touch ID doesn't work with older Intel Macs.
To pair the keyboard, connect it to your Mac with the included fabric-covered USB-C to Lightning cable, which will pair it automatically. You can also pair it like you would any other Bluetooth keyboard in your Mac’s Bluetooth settings panel.
