I’ve been using the OnePlus Pad 2 for a few weeks now and I would argue that it could replace my 2018 iPad Pro 12.9 based on specs alone. That’s my personal gold standard for tablets. I need a tablet that’s fast, responsive, can play the games I want on, and can be used when I want to work away from my laptop. I want it to look good, have a decent accessory ecosystem, and not be too heavy. It also needs to be able to run the apps I need, like Netflix, Sheets, Slack, and the like.
OnePlus Pad 2 hands-on: thin, light, and detachable keyboard!
The OnePlus Pad 2 comes pretty close to meeting all of those needs. It’s absolutely fast and responsive. Apps load quickly, animations play quickly, and I never felt any lag when moving between windows, even in OnePlus’s dedicated multitasking mode, which was first showcased in the company’s foldable phone, the OnePlus Open.
It plays high-end games like Diablo Immortal, Dead Rising 2, and Zenless Zone Zero without any stuttering, and it connects well to Bluetooth controllers, making it a great portable gaming device for sure. OnePlus’ Gaming Mode also ensures that performance is optimal, with optimizations for framerate and memory usage.
It’s powered by a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset, with an Adreno 750 @ 903MHz GPU, and a Qualcomm Kryo 8-core CPU. The OnePlus Pad 2 also has a 3K display that measures 12.1 inches diagonally (10.6 inches tall by 7.8 inches wide). The OnePlus Pad 2 is just over a quarter-inch thick and weighs 20.6 ounces. My 2018 iPad Pro 12.9 is 11 by 8.5 inches and .23 inches thick with a weight of 22.25 ounces. In other words, it’s a bit bigger and a bit heavier. The OnePlus Pad 2 compares favorably.
