Harmony Korine reiterated his views on the current state of the film industry at a press conference in Venice on Saturday, saying that “we see Hollywood creatively crumbling” because it is “so stuck in convention.”

As he puffed on a cigar and smoke drifted into the conference room, Korine, seated next to his designer Joao Rosa and Gaspar Noé in a neon green mask, waxed lyrical about the way the industry exploits its youth.

"Hollywood needs to encourage — it doesn't have to, but it would be smart to — encourage the youth, the kids. Why we're seeing Hollywood creatively crumble is because they're losing a lot of the most creative minds to gaming and streaming," he said. "They're so fixated on conventions and then all these kids who are so creative are just going to find other paths and go other places because movies are no longer the dominant art form."

Korine is on hand to premiere “Baby Invasion,” his latest experimental—and experiential—project following last year’s “Aggro Dr1ft.” He hinted that festival audiences will only get a “base layer” of the overall experience that will be offered once the film is released.
